Lord, my wife is in the grip of depression, and the bright, warm person I married feels far away behind it. Your word gives me the gentleness I need to match: You will not break a bruised reed or snuff out a smouldering wick — and right now she is both, fragile and barely flickering. So handle her gently, and teach me to do the same. I am not asking You to make her instantly herself again; I am asking You to keep the small flame in her alive, and to make me a soft, patient place rather than one more pressure. Help me sit with her in the dimness without rushing her toward a brightness she cannot reach yet. Quiet my fear when she feels far away. And lead us gently toward the help she needs — a doctor, a counsellor — without either of us calling her weak for it. Tend my wife, Lord, like the bruised reed You promise never to break. Amen.
