Lord, my wife is pregnant, and I am full of wonder and quietly full of worry. I watch her body changing to make room for our child, and I feel both awe and a helplessness — there is so little I can do to protect either of them. Your word pictures You as a shepherd who gathers the lambs in His arms and gently leads those who are with young. So gather my wife and our baby into those arms. Be gentle with her through the hard parts of carrying this child — the exhaustion, the discomfort, the anxiety she may not always voice. Steady me to be a strong, calm support, and to carry my worry to You instead of onto her. I cannot know that all will be well, and I will not pretend to promises only You can keep; I can only entrust my wife and our child to Your care. Shepherd them both, Lord, through every day of this. Amen.
