Lord, tomorrow my wife is wheeled into surgery, and I would change places with her in a heartbeat if such a thing were allowed. Since it is not, Your word tells me to throw all my anxiety onto You, because You care for us both — so I am prying my fingers off the fear I have clutched for days and handing it over. Be present in the room I am barred from entering. Guide every hand and instrument and decision while she sleeps, unable to help herself. Hold the life I am powerless to hold, and give her back to me. And through the long hours I will spend doing nothing but pray, catch the worry each time it crawls back up, and help me cast it again. I entrust my wife, and my dread, to the One who cares for us. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer for My Wife Before Surgery
On the eve of her surgery, when you'd give anything to take her place, lay the worry down here.
