Lord, they told us today, and I have no composed prayer in me — only the oldest cry there is: how long? My wife is sick, and I am the one who promised to protect her, and I could not keep this from her. Do not hide Your face from us now. I do not understand why this has come, and I am done pretending I do. Be near her in the fear she is being so brave about, and near me in the helplessness I am hiding behind a steady face. Give her doctors clear eyes and wise plans. And in the long sorrow of this day, when I carry more questions than faith, do not let go of me. I am bringing my wife — and my unanswered why — to You. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer for My Wife After a Diagnosis
Hearing your wife's diagnosis can leave a man with nothing but raw questions; ask them honestly here.
“How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? How long shall I take counsel in my soul, having sorrow in my heart every day?”
