Lord, I have shielded my son since he was small — from fevers and falls and the world's sharp edges — and now there is an enemy inside his own body that I cannot stand between him and. It undoes me. Yet You say Your mercies are new every morning, and so I am learning to take this one morning at a time, because the whole road is too far to look at. Give my son a courage that outsizes his years, and let him still be himself — laughing, stubborn, dreaming — between the hard days. When my own strength is gone by nightfall, renew it by dawn, so I can meet him again with hope and not only fear. Great is Your faithfulness; let it be enough for both of us. Hold my boy. Amen.
