Lord, my son is heading off on his own — the open road, the miles between us, the independence that thrills him and unnerves me. Your word says that You go before him, that You will not fail him or forsake him, that he need not be afraid; let that go ahead of him on this journey. Watch the roads he drives and the choices he makes when no parent is in the passenger seat. Keep him alert behind the wheel and wise about the company and the places he stops. Calm the part of me that will not relax until I hear he has arrived. I cannot follow him down every highway or pretend nothing will happen, but I can send him out under Your care. Go before my son, Lord, and bring him through. Amen.
