Lord, tomorrow my son goes under the surgeon's care, and I find myself praying the prayer of that desperate father in Your word: I believe — help my unbelief. I do believe You are good and able; I am also terrified, and I will not pretend the fear away. Tomorrow I have to do the impossible and place my child into other people's hands and into Yours, and step back. So I surrender him — I cannot be in that room, I cannot guide a single instrument, I cannot will his body to mend. You can. Guard him while he sleeps. Steady everyone who works over him. And hold my wavering faith together through the waiting, so that whatever tomorrow brings, I am still leaning on You. I give You my son. Amen.
