Lord, my sister is recovering, and there is gladness creeping back into us that I had almost forgotten the sound of — the marathon phone calls, the laughing until we cry, the ordinary closeness handed back to us. Your word puts it plainly: You have done great things for us, and we are glad. Thank You. Strengthen her gently through the rest of the recovery, and show me how to keep helping without hovering now that the worst has passed. Guard her from setback, and soften the fear that still pricks at us both before every scan. Help us spend this reprieve well — not flinching toward the next blow, but actually enjoying each other again, the way we used to before any of this. You have done great things, Lord; teach my sister and me to be simply, deeply glad. Amen.
