Lord, the chemotherapy is wearing my sister thin, and because her soul and mine have been knit together since childhood, I feel every bad day of hers almost as my own. Your word describes a love that binds one soul to another, and that is the two of us — so I am not asking to feel less, only to love her well through it. Carry her body through the sickness and the exhaustion. On the days she does not feel remotely like herself, be the mirror that reminds her she is still wholly loved. Let me be the sister who shows up exactly the same whether she has her hair or not, her energy or not, good news or not. And hold me too, because loving someone this closely through suffering is its own quiet weight. Our souls are knit, Lord; hold us both, and carry my sister through. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer for My Sister During Chemotherapy
As chemo wears your sister down, the lifelong closeness between you can be both an ache and a gift.
