Lord, my child is rebellious right now, and it is testing my love in ways I did not know it could be tested. Your word describes a love that bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things — and that is the love I need You to grow in me, because my own keeps running out. Help me bear the hard days without keeping a record of them. Help me keep believing in who my child can become, even when their behaviour gives me little to go on. Help me hope without demanding a particular outcome, and endure without growing cold. Where I need to be firm, make me firm without being cruel; where I need to be soft, soften me. I cannot change my child by force or by worry; I can only love them and entrust them to You. So I do. Carry us through this, Lord, and let my love outlast the rebellion. Amen.
