Lord, the test results for my mother have not come yet, and the whole family is suspended — the group messages that go quiet and then flurry, the phone calls that all circle the same unanswerable question. Your word steadies me: as for me, I will look to You; I will wait for the God of my salvation, and You will hear me. So I am turning my eyes from the worst predictions back onto You. Be near my mother in the long pause before any of us knows anything, and give her a peace that does not hang on the news being good. Hold the brothers and sisters and grandchildren all waiting with their own private fears. And when the answer finally comes, however it reads, let it arrive to a family already leaning on the God who hears. We are looking to You, Lord, and waiting on You. Amen.
