Lord, my mother is held by addiction, and there is a strange grief in parenting the woman who once parented me. Your word tells of You leading people out of the dark and snapping their chains; snap the chains around my mum. I long for her freedom, knowing how deep the roots go after so many years. Soften her toward help and humble enough to take it — a doctor, a programme, a circle of support. Lift the secrecy she hides behind, and tell her she is not too far gone for hope. Keep my own heart from hardening into anger or caving into despair, and grant me wisdom to help without enabling. Lead my mother out of the dark, Lord, and stay with her until she stands free. Amen.
