Lord, the chemotherapy is wearing my mother thin, and I keep reaching for ways to comfort the woman who comforted every hurt I ever had. Your word says that as a mother comforts her child, so You will comfort us — and right now my mother is the one who needs that mothering, more than I know how to give. So comfort her, Lord, the way she once comforted me: soothe the nausea and the fear, sit with her in the small hours, hush the worry she will not say aloud. Show me how to be tender with her without crowding her, present without fussing. Let her feel, underneath my imperfect care, the perfect comfort of the God who made her. And steady me, because it undoes something in a child to watch their mother suffer. Comfort my mother, Lord, as only You can. Amen.
