Lord, I bring You my marriage — not an ideal one, but the real one I am actually in, with all its tenderness and all its rough edges. Your word describes the love we keep falling short of: patient, kind, not easily provoked, keeping no record of wrongs. Grow that love in me first, before I start praying it for my spouse. Where I have been impatient, harsh, or quietly keeping score, soften me. Help me see my husband or wife with compassion rather than as a list of grievances, and to assume the best more often than the worst. Teach us both to listen, to repair quickly after conflict, to laugh together again. Protect what is good between us, and heal what has worn thin. Where we are stuck, give us wisdom and humility, and the help we may need to find our way. Make our love patient and kind, Lord — starting, today, with me. Amen.
