Lord, my husband wears the uniform, and his service asks a courage of him — and a steadiness of me — that I did not always know we had. Your word blesses You as a rock and a shield, the stronghold a soldier can run to; be that stronghold for him in the field and in the waiting alike. Cover him in the dangerous hours and steady him through the dull, grinding ones. Protect the part of him that is still gentle, so that whatever he must do out there does not cost him his soul. Hold our marriage across the distance and the silences, and hold me on the nights the news frightens me. I lay my husband down before You each day, knowing I cannot armour him myself. Be his stronghold, Lord, in every sense. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer for My Husband in the Military
For the nights the weight of his service settles on you in the quiet house.
“Blessed be the LORD, my rock... my loving kindness, my fortress, my high tower, my deliverer, my shield, and he in whom I take refuge.”
