Lord, the chemotherapy is grinding on, and the strong man I married is thin and tired and sometimes far away behind his own exhaustion. Your word says many waters cannot quench love, that floods cannot drown it — let that be true of us now, through the nausea and the bad nights and the version of him this treatment has temporarily made. I love him no less for being weak; help me show it in ways he can feel even when he can barely lift his head. Carry his body through the worst of it. Guard his spirit from despair on the days the calendar of treatments looks endless. And guard my own, so I can keep loving him steadily and not from fear. This love will outlast this flood. Hold us in it. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer for My Husband During Chemotherapy
Some weeks of chemo ask you to love him at his lowest, when he is not himself; love can hold even that.
“Many waters can't quench love, neither can floods drown it. If a man would give all the wealth of his house for love, he would be utterly scorned.”
