Lord, my grandmother has been diagnosed, and I am grieving before there is even anything to grieve, because she is the soft, steady heart this whole family circles around. Your word becomes my prayer: turn us to Yourself, and renew our days as of old. I am not ready for the days to change — for the kitchen, the old stories, the way she prays for every one of us by name. Be near her as she takes in this news with the quiet faith she has carried her whole long life. Wrap her remaining days, however many they are, in Your presence. Give her doctors wisdom and our family courage. And hold me in the selfish, tender fear of a grandchild who simply is not ready to let her go. Renew our days, Lord, as much as Your mercy allows. Amen.
A prayer for you
