Lord, tomorrow my grandfather has surgery, and the verse that fits him best is the old believer's confidence: he knows whom he has believed, and is persuaded You are able to guard what he has committed to You. He has trusted You far longer than I have been alive, so tonight I borrow his faith and commit him into Your keeping. Guard what he has entrusted to You — his life, and his very soul — through tomorrow and whatever it holds. Steady the hands in that operating room. Bring him back to us if it is Your will, and meet him with perfect peace whatever comes. Help me be calm and useful for a man unused to being fussed over. Into Your faithful keeping I commit my grandfather, Lord — the way he has committed himself to You for a lifetime. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer for My Grandfather Before Surgery
The night before your grandfather's surgery, his long-held faith may steady you more than yours steadies him.
“I am not ashamed, for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed to him against that day.”
