Lord, my grandfather has been diagnosed, and the news has knocked something loose in me — a sudden urgency about everything I still want to learn from him before it is too late. Your word says one generation commends Your works to another and declares Your mighty acts; that is what he has been doing for me my whole life, mostly without my even noticing. Sit with him now in the weight of this. Give him the same steadiness he has always modelled, and let his long faith be a comfort to him and not only to those of us watching. Where the road ahead turns uncertain, walk every step of it with him. And press on me the good kind of urgency — to pull up a chair, to ask the real questions, to write down the stories and the faith he is still here to pass on. Keep my grandfather, Lord, and keep his witness alive in the generation he raised. Amen.
