Lord, watching my father grow older unsettles something deep in me — the strong man of my childhood now a little more fragile than he will admit. Your word calls You our rock, our fortress, the high tower we run to; be that for him now, in the season he may not be used to needing it. Guard his body, his balance, and his independence for as long as it can last with dignity. Where pride keeps him from asking for help, soften him; where fear hides under his stubbornness, meet it. Send people to watch over him, and give me wisdom to honour and protect him without wounding his pride. I cannot promise myself he is beyond all harm; I can entrust him to the Rock that does not move. Be my father's fortress, Lord. Amen.
