Lord, my daughter starts chemotherapy now, and the calendar of it stretches out frighteningly far. Your word gives me my orders for a season like this: to rejoice in hope, to be patient in affliction, to be faithful in prayer — so help me live those out, day after ordinary day, beside her. Make me useful in concrete ways: the ride to treatment, the favourite blanket, the distraction on a bad afternoon, the prayer whispered over her while she sleeps. Carry her body through the sickness this will bring. Keep some of her sparkle lit through the hard weeks. And when my hope flags and the prayers start to feel routine, renew my perseverance, because she needs me steadfast and not just sad. Walk this long road with my daughter, Lord, and with me beside her. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer for My Daughter Starting Chemotherapy
As her treatment begins, the road looks long; a parent's job becomes the steady, daily showing-up.
“rejoicing in hope, enduring in troubles, continuing steadfastly in prayer.”
