Lord, my daughter aches for a child, and I ache watching her — month after disappointing month, the hope and the grief, the smile she puts on at other people's baby showers. Your word says You are near to all who call on You, and my daughter is calling, and so am I on her behalf. Be near her. I cannot fix this for her, and I have stopped offering the clumsy comforts that only hurt — the stories of someone who 'just relaxed,' the assurances that it will surely happen, the hint that a little more faith would do it. None of that is true, or kind. So instead I simply lift her to You. Steady her worth when her body feels like a betrayal. Comfort her in the particular loneliness of this grief. And hold whatever her future holds — a child, or a different shape of life, each of them equally loved by You and by me. Be near my daughter, Lord, who is calling on You. Amen.
