Lord, the chemotherapy is wearing my daughter thin, and the hardest part for a parent is how little there is to do — no problem to solve, no enemy to fight, only long hours at her side while the medicine does its brutal work. Your word says, be still and know that You are God; teach me a stillness that is not the same as giving up. Sit with my daughter through the nausea and the grey, sunk days, and let her sense that she is surrounded even when she is too unwell to lift her head. Loosen my grip on the illusion that my worry changes anything. You are God; I am only her parent; and tonight the distance between those two is a strange mercy. Be still with us, Lord — close beside my daughter in the long middle of this. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer for My Daughter During Chemotherapy
Some weeks of treatment, there is nothing to do but be still — and stillness can feel unbearable to a parent.
