Lord, tomorrow my daughter is taken into surgery, and there is a primal thing in me that wants to lie down on that table in her place. I cannot — they will wheel her one way and send me the other — and letting go of her hand at the door may be the hardest thing I do. So I trust her to the truth of Your word: that even there, where I cannot follow, Your hand will lead her and Your right hand will hold her. Be the hand I am forced to let go of. Steady the surgeons; guard her sleeping body; bring her back to me. And while I pace and pray and cannot help, hold my girl in a grip far surer than mine ever was. I would take her place, Lord; since I cannot, hold her fast. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer for My Daughter Before Surgery
Handing your daughter to the surgeons means letting go of the one you've held since she was born; this is hard ground.
“even there your hand will lead me, and your right hand will hold me.”
