Lord, the friend who knows me best is sick, and though we share no blood, Your word knows there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother — and that is what I want to be now. Keep me close when illness makes people awkward and the crowd quietly thins; let me be the one still texting, still showing up, still ordinary with them when everything else has turned strange. Carry my friend's body through treatment and lift their spirit on the long, dull, frightening days. Spare them the loneliness that hollows out the sick. Give me the wisdom to know when to speak and when to just sit, and the staying power to still be here in three months, after the casseroles stop coming. Thank You for a friendship this deep. Hold the friend who is family to me. Amen.
