Lord, we are fostering a child, and it asks something rare of us: to love completely while holding open hands. Your word says that what we do for the least of these, we do for You — so let us care for this child as we would care for You, with our whole hearts. Give this little one safety, stability, and the felt sense of being wanted, however long or short their time with us. And here is the hard part: help us love fully even though they may leave again. We will not pretend that 'forever' is promised. So give us the courage to attach anyway, to pour in love that may one day go home with them somewhere else, and to trust that no love given to a child is ever wasted. Guard our hearts without letting us guard them so carefully that we hold back. Whatever comes, let this child be safer and more loved for having been with us. Hold them, and us, Lord. Amen.
