Lord, I long for unity in my family — for us to be close, to enjoy each other, to be at peace under one roof and across the miles. Your word calls us to be eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace, and I want that for the people I love. Knit us together with patience and forgiveness. Soften the old grievances that flare up at the dinner table, and the comparisons and competition that quietly divide us. Help each of us to listen more than we defend, to assume love rather than offence. Where there is tension, bring understanding; where there is distance, draw us gently back toward one another. Make our home a place of belonging for everyone in it, the easy and the difficult alike. Bind my family together, Lord, in a peace that is stronger than our differences. Amen.
