Lord, there is war where I am, and the fear of it is constant — the sounds, the news, the not knowing what each new day will hold. Your word calls You a stronghold for the poor and the needy in their distress, a refuge from the storm — so be that stronghold for everyone caught in this, on every side of it, because You love them all. Protect the children who do not understand what is happening. Shelter families with nowhere safe to go. Strengthen those caring for the wounded and burying the dead. I will not ask You to take sides or to hate anyone; I ask You to have mercy on us all, and to break the hearts of those with the power to stop this. I cannot see how or when this ends, and I am weary and afraid. Be near, Lord, in the middle of a war none of us chose. Be our refuge. Amen.
