Lord, we are living through a pandemic, and the fear of it has seeped into everything — the headlines, the numbers, the worry about the people I love. Your word describes a heart that is not overcome by bad news because it is anchored in You; steady my heart like that, even as the news keeps coming. Protect the vulnerable, the elderly, the sick, those with nowhere to isolate and no way to stop working. Strengthen the exhausted doctors, nurses, and carers giving everything they have. Comfort everyone grieving someone they could not even sit beside at the end. I cannot promise myself that this will spare the people I love, and I will not pretend the fear away; I am asking instead for Your presence through the uncertainty, and for the grace to care for my neighbour and not only myself. Hold us all, Lord, through a danger none of us can see. Be near. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer During a Pandemic
In the middle of a pandemic — the fear, the isolation, the relentless bad news — here are present-tense words.
“He will not be afraid of evil news. His heart is steadfast, trusting in the LORD.”
