A prayer for you

Prayer Before Chemotherapy

The night before the first infusion can fill with dread of the unknown; you can be honest about that here.

When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you.
Psalm 56:3 (WEBBE)

Lord, I am afraid. Tomorrow the chemotherapy begins, and I have read too much and imagined worse — the sickness, the exhaustion, the slow erasing of the person I recognise in the mirror. When I am afraid, Your word tells me to put my trust in You, so that is what I am trying, even with shaking hands. Steady me for the first treatment and the many after it. Use the medicine for healing, and blunt the harm it does along the way. Send me people who will sit with me through the dull, hard hours. And on the days I cannot find any courage of my own, let me borrow Yours. I do not know how this ends, but I know whose hands I am in. Into them I go. Amen.
