Lord, the operation is over, and now comes the part no one really warns you about — the slow days in bed, the soreness, the strange impatience of a body that will not be hurried. Your word says You sustain the weary on their sickbed and restore them from the bed of illness; do that for me now. Bless the hands that did their careful work, and guard against anything that would set my healing back. Give me patience with a recovery that is slower than I want, and gratitude for the plain mercies of rest and quiet and people who check in. Where I am anxious about what the results will show, keep my mind from running out ahead of today. One hour at a time, mend me — body and spirit — and let me trust the unhurried work You are doing. Amen.
A prayer for you
Prayer After Surgery
The surgery is behind you; the slow, unglamorous work of healing is its own kind of faith.
