How to Do a Prayer Walk

Ready to try praying as you walk? Here is a simple step-by-step way to do a prayer walk, whether on your own or with a friend.

Step 1 — Choose your route

Start somewhere familiar and safe — your street, a local park, the route to your church or your children's school. Keep it short the first time.

Step 2 — Begin with a simple prayer

Before you set off, ask God to guide your walk and open your eyes to what He wants you to pray for. Then walk at a relaxed pace.

Step 3 — Pray what you see

  • Homes — pray for the families inside, known and unknown.
  • Schools — pray for the children, teachers, and staff.
  • Shops and workplaces — pray for the people who work and shop there.
  • Hospitals, care homes, churches — pray for those served and serving.
  • People you pass — a silent blessing as they go by.

Step 4 — Stay aware and respectful

Keep your eyes open and your wits about you for traffic and surroundings. Pray quietly or silently — this is between you and God, not a performance for passers-by.

Step 5 — Finish with thanks

End by thanking God for your neighbourhood and the people you prayed for, and ask Him to keep working there long after your walk is done.
